PETALING JAYA: Former Tun Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad was hurt to learn that former Education Minister Dr. Maszlee Malik had signed the statutory statement supporting PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the next Prime minister, says an assistant to Dr. Mahathir.

Adam Mukhriz Mohd Muhayeddin said that anyone is free to make their own decisions.

Today, Maszlee made the decision to leave the fight with Dr. Mahathir and go his own way. We respect your decision and wish you all the best.

“Many have wondered why this was the case.

“We all know that he has signed the statutory statement to support Anwar. He did so after the Pejuang pro tem meeting agreed not to support anyone joining the kleptocrats and we wanted to see who supports Anwar before making a decision.” the aide said in a Facebook post on Monday (November 2).

“In fact, after signing the SD, Dr. Mahathir invited Maszlee and his family to dinner at his home. He responded in the same way, since Maszlee had invited him and his wife Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Ismail home earlier.

“Dr. Mahathir said, ‘He never said anything, he sat down to dinner for a long time talking about various things.’

“From Dr. Mahathir’s tone of voice, we could sense that he was hurt by Maszlee’s actions.

“Even after (the SD) went viral, Maszlee made no effort to apologize or explain. Our side tried to contact him but there was no response.

“This is not the way to be in an organization.

“When he (Maszlee) said he doesn’t want to get involved in the elite political positioning game, isn’t signing an SD part of the political positioning game?” Adam Mukhriz asked.

He added that whatever happens, Dr. Mahathir would continue his fight, even if he had to do it alone.

The post comes a few hours after Maszlee announced that he would be leaving Pejuang and taking an independent route as a deputy.

On October 18, it was revealed that Maszlee had signed an SD for Anwar as the ninth prime minister despite Pejuang’s position, of which he was a part.

On Sunday (November 1), questions arose when Pejuang released a statement on the 2021 budget signed by all his MPs with the name Maszlee missing.

Saya selalu cakap kat orang ‘This is his last battle, no matter what we stand by his side, we fight with him, we put ideology …
