Bargain hunters crowd closing sales

KUALA LUMPUR: Shoppers queued for hours for last-minute deals at the two Robinsons department stores, which are shutting down. Robinsons began operating here in 1928.

They all followed standard operating procedure, which included keeping a physical distance of at least one meter and there was no jostling or shoving, as they patiently waited their turn to enter the stores located at The Gardens Mall at Mid Valley Megamall and KLCC.

News of the long lines also reached social media.

Many of the products, some with discounts of 80%, were quickly bought by bargain hunters.

Some of the shoppers also took the opportunity to redeem coupons.

The luxury department store announced last Friday that it will close all its remaining stores in Malaysia and Singapore due to the fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Robinsons has a 162-year history in Singapore.

The Malaysian stores will remain open for the next few days for their final sale.
