Express bus crashes near Sibu, 13 passengers escape with minor injuries

The driver is believed to have lost control of the express bus at Jalan Paradom, near Sibu.

SIBU (Oct 29): Thirteen people escaped serious injuries when the express bus they were traveling in skidded and landed on its side in Jalan Paradom at around 7.15am this morning.

Sarawak Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Superintendent Alexson Naga Chabu said the bus was traveling from Miri to Kuching.

“The bus driver is believed to have lost control of the bus before it skidded and landed on the edge of the road along Jalan Paradom this morning,” he said in a press release.

He said all the passengers, between the ages of 20 and 60, sustained minor injuries and were sent to Sibu Hospital for observation.

The initial police investigation revealed that the stretch of highway where the incident occurred was a straight two-lane highway. The location is about 20 minutes from Sibu.

“The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation,” he said, adding that the accident occurred during a heavy downpour this morning.
