KUALA LUMPUR: Muslims in Malaysia are advised not to act beyond the limits of law and religion in response to the posting of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad.

The Deputy Director General (Operations) of Malaysia’s Islamic Development Department (Jakim), Datuk Abdul Aziz Jusoh, said that this is because such action could create discord among the country’s multi-religious society.

“Islam prohibits human actions that can cause harm, evil, violence, tyranny, whether between Muslims or non-Muslims.

“Islam rejects any extremist movement that uses violence, murder and war that threatens the peace of a country and the world,” he said in a statement in conjunction with the Maulidur Rasul celebration today.

According to media reports, a teacher was beheaded on the outskirts of Paris on October 16 after showing his students the cartoons of the prophet Muhammad published in Charlie Hebdo.

Abdul Aziz also commented that Jakim condemned the provocative action of the publication of the cartoon by the French satirical weekly.

“This question should not be raised, least of all when Muslims around the world now celebrate the month of Rabiulawal, the month of the birth of Prophet Muhammad,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abdul Aziz virtually announced that International Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) President Datuk Dr. Mustapha Ahmad Merican was selected as the main award winner “Semarak Cinta Rasul SAW 1442H / 2020M” for his actions in fundraising. and the improvement of mosques and surau in Malaysia and other Muslim countries in the region. – called
