KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court was informed that PKR has not yet presented its former Vice President Zuraida Kamaruddin with an RM10mil lawsuit for an alleged breach of the bond that linked it to the party.

During the handling of the case, which was conducted through an electronic review with Deputy Registrar Nor Afidah Idris here on Tuesday (October 27), PKR, as a plaintiff, told the court that it could not serve Zuraida as much in your office and your home.

Attorney Navpreet Singh appeared in PKR’s online process.

The court set November 16 for further handling of the case.

PKR’s lead attorney, William Leong, informed the press that they had sent a request to Zuraida by certified mail for her to appoint and instruct a law firm to accept the service on her behalf.

“We are now in the process of making an appointment with her to accept the service.

“The next date for handling the case is to update the court on the progress of the case and seek further instructions on the allegations,” he said when contacted.

In the lawsuit, PKR general secretary Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who is suing on behalf of the party, named the 52-year-old Ampang deputy as the sole defendant.

The lawsuit was filed through the law firm of Messrs. William Leong & Co in the Superior Court registry here on September 28.

In the statement of claim, Saifuddin said that Zuraida had executed a bond in which he promised to pay the party a sum of RM10 thousand in accordance with the terms and conditions that were established.

The conditions of the bond include that the defendant agrees to pay the RM10 thousand part no later than seven days after such events occur; including the defendant’s resignation from the party, or joining any other political party or being an independent elected representative after the defendant wins the elections on the PKR list.

Saifuddin claimed that on February 24, Zuraida, along with 10 other PKR MPs, announced his resignation from the party without resigning from his elected position as Ampang MP.

He said that Zuraida, along with the other deputies, Parti Pribumi Bersatu, Barisan Nasional, PAS and Gabungan Parti Sarawak and others, formed a new bloc known as Perikatan Nasional.

Saifuddin, in his capacity as general secretary of the PKR, issued a certificate dated July 24 to confirm that Zuraida’s party membership had been canceled.

PKR claimed to have issued a demand letter dated August 7 that required Zuraida to pay the RM10,000 in accordance with the terms of the bond.

Saifuddin claimed that Zuraida had failed to pay, had refused, and had forgotten to pay the sum or part of it, and was therefore entitled to claim the sum on behalf of Zuraida’s part.

The plaintiff seeks the defendant to pay the party RM10mil under the bond, or alternatively, the sum of RM12,049,459.20, which includes RM2,049,459.20 for the remunerations received by the defendant as MP and Minister of Housing and Local Government.

The plaintiff also seeks interest, costs, and other reparations that the court deems appropriate.

In a press release, Zuraida criticized the lawsuit, saying it was a waste of time for the court.

She said that in a democracy, elected representatives were free to leave their political parties and she was fired for this.
