PETALING JAYA: General Director of Health, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (Photo) has advised Malaysians to adjust to the new standard following the guidelines established by the government, since most workers will be in force again tomorrow (May 4).

He emphasized the importance of complying with standard operating procedures (SOP) by adopting social distancing, taking all precautionary measures, and maintaining good personal hygiene.

“On May 4, many of you will return to work.

“However, you should take this time to plan and do whatever it takes to comply with the SOP for your respective industry and comply with the new standards in the workplace.

“The first week back should be used to strategize, plan and implement these new changes, and not necessarily so that you can fully resume services,” he said.

Dr. Hisham said that employers must ensure that all employees adhere to safe distance, especially in confined spaces.

“You may need to rearrange the office space to make it more spacious and safe, regularly disinfect common areas such as pantries or prayer rooms (surau), and only allow a limited number of people to congregate in one space at any one time to guarantee safe social distancing, “he said.

He noted that the guiding principles of the Ministry of Health were clear and that it was the responsibility of employers to implement them.

“This is our social responsibility, and we need social discipline and social compliance to adopt and practice SOPs,” he said, noting that the world would not be the same and that people would have to adapt to the new rules.

“We must all learn that the action of each individual has a ripple effect on how we manage Covid-19 in our community.

We have to adapt, adjust and accommodate the new standards in our lives, “he added.

Dr. Hisham reminded those who had no reason to go out and stay safe at home.
