Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to meet with menteris besar and senior ministers in Putrajaya tomorrow.
KUCHING (October 25): Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to set aside the meeting with the prime minister in Putrajaya tomorrow.
The Office of the Chief Minister (OCM) issued a notice tonight to inform the media that Abang Johari would launch two events in Sematan as scheduled today.
At a quarter past twelve today, CMO issued a notice regarding the Abang Johari launch of two events scheduled for tomorrow at 8.30 and 11.30 in Sematan.
After 6 p.m., CMO gave another notice, informing the press that the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, would represent the prime minister at the events.
Abang Johari was believed to attend a meeting called by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in Putrajaya and therefore Abdul Karim was asked to take over from the acting prime minister.
However, before 8.30pm, CMO issued the last notice to inform that Abang Johari would launch the events in Sematan as previously scheduled.
The Borneo Post previously spoke with Abdul Karim, who confirmed that he will replace the prime minister at the events.
Following the latest information, the Minister of Youth and Sports also confirmed with The Borneo Post that the prime minister would be expected to be in Sematan instead of Putrajaya.
“Sorry about the hiccups. I also got a message from CM’s ps (press secretary) that CM decides to go to Satang and Sematan shows tomorrow, ”Abdul Karim said in an SMS.
Muhyiddin was reported to have invited all the kissing ministers and top ministers of the state to a meeting in Putrajaya tomorrow, after a failed attempt to declare a state of emergency.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah had decided not to comply with Muhyiddin’s request to declare an emergency.
If Abang Johari travels to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow, it would mean that the prime minister must undergo mandatory quarantine when he returns to the state in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) to break the chain of Covid-19 infections.
This could be inconvenient, particularly in light of the upcoming State Legislative Assembly (DUN) that will meet on November 9-18, when the prime minister is expected to present the state budget for 2021.
