Members of the media wait outside Muhyiddin Yassin’s home in Kuala Lumpur tonight after the King rejected a proposal to declare a state of emergency.

KUALA LUMPUR: Cabinet members were at Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s home until late tonight following Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decision to reject a government proposal to declare a state of emergency over the Covid-19 crisis.

More than 10 vehicles were seen entering Muhyiddin’s private residence in Bukit Damansara, hours after a conference in Istana Negara between the king and the Malaysian rulers.

The vehicles are believed to have transported ministers and vice ministers. The cars were seen entering his home after 9 p.m. Sunday and leaving about two hours later.

The Minister of Religious Affairs, Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, greeted the photographers as he left. However, the occupants of other vehicles did not stop before the media, who pursued them as they left.

The news of the meeting had sparked rumors that Muhyiddin might resign after the palace rejected his proposal. However, a member of Muhyiddin’s PPBM party said that cabinet members had been with Muhyiddin to await the King’s decision.

After the decision was announced, they and PAS Chairman Abdul Hadi Awang wanted to discuss the results of the rulers’ meeting, the party source said.

“The slander that the prime minister wants to resign is the propaganda of stubborn politicians who want to resume politics,” he said.

A statement by Muhyiddin tonight said the cabinet will discuss the king’s advice made in the palace statement earlier.
