PUTRAJAYA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decision not to declare a state of emergency for the country shows that the Federal Constitution should not be used arbitrarily, says Umno Vice President Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

Khaled said the decision reflects Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s confidence in the Malaysian health system and the ability of public officials and Malaysians to address the health crisis.

“The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, as well as the Malaysian rulers, have made the wise decision not to declare a state of emergency and have really taken the interest of the rakyat into consideration. In fact, the decision shows that the Federal Constitution should not be used arbitrarily, ”he said on Sunday (October 25).

Khaled said that Sultan Abdullah’s wisdom on this matter has convinced Malaysians that the royal institution always listens to the pulse of the people, celebrates democracy and upholds the Constitution.

“Let this matter serve as a lesson to all parties,” he said.

Early Sunday, Sultan Abdullah decided that there was no need to declare a state of emergency in the country and reminded all politicians to immediately put an end to all forms of politicking that could disrupt national stability.

Prior to this, the Malaysian rulers held a special meeting in Istana Negara to discuss the government’s plan to declare a state of emergency to address the worsening Covid-19 situation.
