KEPALA BATAS: Two brothers robbed a police car last night to impress a girlfriend and then drove from Seberang Perai Utara to Shah Alam, police said.

The brothers and the wife, a brother’s girlfriend, have been arrested.

The Honda Civic 1.8S patrol vehicle was taken out of the Seberang Perai Utara district police headquarters here last night and the vehicle was found in Shah Alam, Selangor, earlier today.

A police source said the two men, aged 28 and 32, fled with the vehicle after claiming they were members of the police’s Information Technology Resources division who were there to check the car’s dash cam.

“Everything happened very quickly and in a matter of minutes the men were out of the enclosure, without raising suspicions,” he told Bernama today.

He said the supervisor (a police officer with the rank of sergeant), only realized that the vehicle was stolen half an hour later when the two men did not return and could not be reached.

The vehicle was found several hours later in Shah Alam, Selangor, and police managed to arrest a male suspect and a woman in her 20s, believed to be his girlfriend, who were in the car.

Following the arrest, another man, the younger brother, was arrested in Tasek Gelugor early this morning.

“Investigations found that the suspect had initially picked up his girlfriend from Tasek Gelugor, and the couple is believed to have attempted to rob a grocery store before driving Shah Alam,” he said.

Police investigations also found that the main suspect had been arrested on October 15 for stealing power lines and both brothers have criminal records, including drug convictions.

When contacted by the district police chief, Noorzainy Mohd Noor, he confirmed the incident, adding that investigations were ongoing.
