KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong has decided that it is not necessary to declare a state of emergency in the country.
Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah also reminded all politicians to immediately put an end to all forms of politicking that may disturb the stability of the country, said the Controller. of the Royal House of Istana Negara Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin.
“Sultan Abdullah also said that it was not necessary for members of Parliament to continue their irresponsible actions that could disrupt the stability of the existing government,” he said in a statement on Sunday (October 25).
He said that Sultan Abdullah and the Malaysian rulers had approved the proposal to declare a state of emergency under article 150 (1) of the Federal Constitution and felt that the government had managed to contain the pandemic effectively.
“The King firmly believes in the ability of the government under the leadership of the Prime Minister to continue implementing policies and enforcing the law to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
Ahmad Fadil added that Sultan Abdullah emphasized that the 2021 Budget to be presented in Parliament is very important for the people to fight Covid-19 and restore the nation’s economy.
“As such, the financial allocation is much needed on the part of the leaders to ensure that they can carry out their jobs and responsibilities smoothly,” he said, adding that Sultan Abdullah was very concerned about the concerns of the people due to the appearance of several new clusters and the peak in daily cases.
Ahmad Fadil said that Sultan Abdullah urged everyone, regardless of their background and political leanings, to put aside all differences and come together and play their respective roles to help the government and authorities curb the spread of Covid-19.
The Malaysian rulers had previously held a special meeting in Istana Negara to discuss the government’s plan to declare a state of emergency to address the worsening Covid-19 situation.
On Friday (October 23), Muhyiddin and several ministers presented Sultan Abdullah with the plan to declare a state of emergency at Istana Abdulaziz in Kuantan.
They were accompanied by Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador, Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun and Director General of the Ministry of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.
