PETALING JAYA: Tunku Mahkota of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has praised the role of the monarchy in providing checks and balances in the country’s administration as Malaysian rulers meet on the proposals put forward by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

“The current situation is a clear indication of what would happen when the power to govern is left entirely to the politicians,” Tunku Ismail said in a Facebook post.

Tunku Ismail said that the most important thing now is the welfare of the people and economic recovery.

May Allah bless the Malaysian rulers with wisdom to ensure the stability of the country and protect it from threats from those who are greedy and power-mad for their personal interests.

“This is the importance of the monarchy, where the Malaysian rulers function to provide checks and balances in the national administration.”

The Malaysian rulers have gathered today in Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur to discuss and refine the proposals put forward by Muhyiddin.

The meeting comes amid speculation that an emergency could be declared or that Parliament could be prorogued.

Earlier, Istana Negara had said that the actual meeting on the prime minister’s proposals will take place in Istana Negara, but did not go into the details of the proposals.

The Comptroller of the Royal Household, Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, said Muhyiddin had presented his proposals to the King during a hearing at Istana Abdul Aziz in Kuantan, Pahang, on Friday after a special Cabinet meeting.
