Covid-19: schools in the red zones of Seremban will close for 16 days

PETALING JAYA: The 177 educational institutions in the red zones in Seremban, Negri Sembilan will remain closed until November 9, says the Ministry of Education.

In a statement on Saturday (October 24), the ministry said that educational institutions would remain closed for 16 days starting Sunday (October 25), adding that it includes primary schools, secondary schools, Teacher Education Institutions (IPG) and schools. private as well as educational institutions with shelters.

“The decision is in line with Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s special speech on October 6 on the government’s decision to close schools in areas classified as red zones by the Ministry of Health. During the period, all school administrators and educational institutions have instructions to ensure that teachers, teaching staff and students continue with the teaching and learning process at home with the manual available for download on the official KPM portal at www.moe.gov.my ”, he said .

Boarding school students were also asked to return home. Those who choose to stay in their shelters under the care of their respective guardians will receive food from the schools.

However, the ministry added that private school students who sit for exams during this period must first obtain a letter from their respective schools.

Negeri Sembilan registered 96 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, all of them in Seremban, bringing the total number of cases in the state so far to 1,290.

Seremban currently has 179 active cases, followed by Rembau (10), Port Dickson (five), Tampin (four), while Jelebu, Kuala Pilah and Jempol have no registered cases so far.
