Firefighters control the fire that destroyed the Chan Furniture warehouse in Jalan Lintas Kepayan yesterday morning.
KOTA KINABALU: The fire destroyed a two-story warehouse and a store belonging to Chan Furniture in Jalan Lintas Kepayan here yesterday, causing the loss of furniture and electrical items valued at approximately RM5 million.
The fire occurred around 6 a.m. and is believed to have been caused by a short circuit. Nobody was hurt.
The manager, who wished to be known only as Chong, 50, said one of his employees informed him of the fire.
“When I arrived, the fire had consumed half the building. We sell furniture and electrical products. We estimate the loss at RM5 million, ”he said when meeting at the site.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department senior operations commander Hamsa Isnurdini said 41 firefighters were transferred to the scene after the department was notified at 6.23 a.m.
“We managed to get the fire under control at 7:20 am. The building is a total loss. Nobody was hurt. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, ”he said.
