PETALING JAYA: Malaysians should learn from the Sabah state elections in our fight against the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, says Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (Photo).
The director general of Health said it is a challenge to safeguard health and the economy while striking a balance between the two as the war against coronavirus continues.
“It is a challenge to safeguard and strike a balance between health and the economy in our ongoing war against Covid-19.
“A loss of balance means loss of life and loss of livelihood,” he said in a post on his Facebook and Twitter accounts on Saturday (October 24).
Dr. Noor Hisham’s call came amid a large number of positive cases recorded daily following the Sabah state elections and the possible announcement of an emergency by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Saturday.
On Friday (October 23), Malaysia recorded 710 new Covid-19 cases and 10 new deaths, the highest number of deaths in a single day.
“Our leaders have held out on the ground for the past 10 months 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
“The mental and physical fatigue is settling. Some are willing to throw in the towel.
“Please learn from PRN Sabah,” he said, referring to the Sabah state elections that were held on September 26.
Dr. Noor Hisham pointed out that Malaysians must stand united and together to win this war against Covid-19.
“We need unity and unity to fight this war against Covid-19, not each other.
“Together we can do the impossible to re-flatten the curve,” he said.
Malaysians, he added, should stay home if there are no important business to attend to.
