RM 300 million loan from AirAsia Group for Sabah operations

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia Group Bhd plans to use the RM 300 thousand loan from Sabah Development Bank Bhd for its digital food supply chain in Sabah and also for the Kota Kinabalu International Airport project.

The low-cost carrier said on Friday that the loan was part of a fundraising exercise conducted by the company.

Of the RM300,000, he said RM170,000 would be used to put the “OURFARM” digital food supply chain and cold chain facilities into operation in Sabah.

Another RM110 thousand would be used to co-finance the project to convert Kota Kinabalu International Airport into an international hub for AirAsia operations;

He added that RM10mil would be used to improve e-commerce platforms and the marketability of Sabah products; and RM10 thousand to further promote Sabah’s tourist destinations on airasia.com, AirAsia’s super digital application.

“This loan is in line with AirAsia’s turn towards digital business. The main objective of the loan is to improve logistics in Sabah by increasing its supply chain and connectivity, creating more than 100,000 new jobs in the process.

“The company wishes to clarify that this loan is not backed by a government guarantee,” he said.
