Covid-19: Six new clusters detected, bringing total active clusters to 99

PETALING JAYA: Six new Covid-19 clusters were reported in five states on Thursday (Oct. 22), bringing the number of active clusters across the country to 99, says Chief Health Officer Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The new conglomerates were detected in Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Melaka.

He said a new group in Sabah, dubbed the Tinusa group, was detected by detecting an individual with symptoms on October 6, and 33 close contacts contracted the virus.

The other group in Sabah, called the Sauh group, spans Kota Kinabalu, Papar and Miri. It was detected during the screening of an individual with symptoms on October 13.

He added that so far 15 close contacts had tested positive for the virus.

The other new group, the Jambu group, he said, was detected on Hulu Langat after a patient, who was due to undergo surgery on October 16, was tested and tested positive for the virus.

He said 13 close contacts from the index case had so far tested positive.

He also said that a new group involving Hulu Langat, Titiwangsa and Lembah Pantai was also detected, which was detected during the evaluation of an individual with symptoms on October 23.

He added that 10 positive cases have been identified in this group, called the Bah Mutiara group.

Dr. Noor Hisham said that a new group was also detected in Seremban, called the Sofi group, which was detected during the evaluation of an individual with symptoms on October 20.

So far, he said 33 close contacts had tested positive for the virus from this group.

He added that a new group was also detected in Melaka, called the Umboo group, after a detainee at the Alor Gajah Immigrant Detention Depot tested positive.

So far, he said that three close contacts of the detainee had tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, Dr. Noor Hisham said the group with the biggest increase on Thursday was the group from Kepayan Prison in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, which has 155 new cases, bringing the total number of cases to 582.

He added that the Utama group, which originated from a shopping center in Selangor, has eight additional cases, bringing the group’s total to 206.
