Failed liposuction probe completed

KUALA LUMPUR: Police investigation documents on a failed liposuction procedure at a beauty center in Cheras that left a 23-year-old woman dead on Saturday were presented yesterday to the Attorney General’s Office (AGC).

Kuala Lumpur Police CID Chief SAC Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the documents were presented to the AGC at 10 am and recommends that those responsible for the victim’s death be charged under Section 304 (a) of the Penal Code for causing wrongful death. .

He said the pretrial detention order for a 49-year-old beautician and her 23-year-old daughter, who were arrested Sunday after the incident, had ended and the duo had been released on bail.

Nik Ros Azhan said the Health Ministry is also conducting investigations and they will be referred to the prosecution division of the ministry for further action.

The victim, who had planned to get married next year, suffered from shortness of breath and turned pale after receiving an injection during the liposuction procedure.

The beautician called for an ambulance and the victim was rushed to a hospital, but the doctors declared her dead.

Investigations revealed that although the beauty center was legally registered, it was not endorsed by the relevant authorities to perform liposuction procedures.
