PETALING JAYA: Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh has urged the National Security Council (MKN) to coordinate and finalize SOPs before making any major announcements to avoid creating confusion.
He said Putrajaya’s announcement on the request for work from home for a million workers was unclear and too general, creating uncertainty in the business community and families.
Yeoh said confusing SOPs could cost companies potential business opportunities and also make it harder for law enforcement authorities to enforce rules on the ground, leading to inconsistencies.
“I urge the government to clear up the confusion quickly and ensure that a penalty is not imposed on those who are confused by the standard operating procedures announced by the two senior ministers, Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Mohamed Azmin Ali.
“The government should also subsidize all the Covid-19 tests that were rushed to run yesterday due to the confusion in the hyssop tests.
“I want to remind the ministers that their honeymoon period is over. They should start coordinating with each other before a decision is announced because the motion control order (MCO) is no longer a new thing, ”he said.
Yeoh also told Ismail not to hold press conferences if he had nothing substantial to announce, and said his briefings had sometimes left people more confused due to “unnecessary” announcements.
“Stop the confusion, stop the Covid-19. If Covid-19 doesn’t kill the economy, its incompetence will, ”he said.
This comes after Ismail announced that workers involved in management and supervision in the public and private sectors in states under conditional MCO will be instructed to work from home starting today, to reduce the number of workers at the facility. .
He also said that all workers who have to be on site to work must undergo swab testing, and Socso will cover the taxpayer costs.
However, yesterday Ismail backtracked on hyssop tests, saying it was only mandatory for construction workers and security guards, while office workers were only encouraged to get tested.
Azmin, who is the Minister of International Trade and Industry, said yesterday that only 10% of senior staff, that is, management and supervisors, from the relevant departments, can work in the office.
These departments are the finance, administration, legal and IT departments, as well as the members of the top management of the company.
According to Miti, the staff assigned to come to the office will also be able to work there for up to four hours, from 10 am to 2 pm, and up to three days a week.
