PKR Secretary General Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the party will work with MPs who share its aspirations.

PETALING JAYA: PKR Secretary General Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said they respected Umno’s political ceasefire with Perikatan Nasional (PN), but will continue efforts to return the mandate to the people.

In a statement today, Saifuddin said they will continue to work toward their goal with the help of MPs who share that aspiration.

Developing further, he said that his goal is to correct the direction of the country’s leadership, especially in the fight against Covid-19, revitalize the economy and duplicate efforts to solve the problems of the rakyat.

Umno President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has declared his continued support for the NP government to ensure that the agenda of helping the people and the economy is given priority.

Zahid’s statement comes amid tense ties between Umno and PPBM. Just last week, Umno had said that he had set “new conditions” for his continued support for the government.

Zahid’s statement of support came after it was reported that he and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had held talks on the “new conditions.”

Earlier, Zahid had announced that many Umno MPs were starting to support PKR President Anwar Ibrahim to become the next prime minister and that he could not prevent them from doing so.

Anwar claims to have the majority support of parliamentarians to form the next government and said that he had presented documents on the matter to Yang di-Pertuan Agong during his audience with him last Tuesday.

However, the palace later said that it had not presented any list of deputies who were supposed to support him in his candidacy for prime minister.
