PETALING JAYA: Umno President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi declared a political ceasefire and reiterated the party’s support for the government led by Perikatan Nasional.
His statement comes amid tense ties between Umno and PPBM. Last week, Umno said he has set “new conditions” for his continued support for the government.
Zahid and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin were reported to have held talks on the “new conditions”.
Zahid said today that the ceasefire and support for the government were to ensure that the agenda to help the people and the economy was prioritized.
Umno, he said, had also instructed all party leaders in the cabinet to give their full attention to efforts to help people who have been affected by Covid-19.
“Cooperation between all parts of the Perikatan Nasional government must be strengthened to ensure political stability at a time when the nation faces the threat of Covid-19 and economic instability.”
