Umno Youth urges a political ceasefire

PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth has called for a political ceasefire and for politicians to focus on national reconciliation as the country grapples with the resurgence of Covid-19 cases.

His Datuk boss, Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki (photo) said that the Covid-19 situation is concerning as cases continue to rise as the economy contracts, adding that it has directly affected people’s livelihoods.

“It is the right time for politicians, regardless of their political affiliation, to declare a ceasefire to think of the best solutions for the good of the people.

“Perhaps this is the best time for all parties to put aside their differences and focus on the Perdamaian Nasional Agenda (national reconciliation agenda),” he said yesterday in a Facebook post.

The call was made following the hearing of the opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong last Tuesday to inform the king that he had the “strong, formidable and convincing” support of the legislators to form a new government, although it did. not providing names of deputies to support your claim

The members of the Umno high council will meet today to discuss their cooperation with Perikatan Nasional.

Umno’s Secretary General Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan has said the party will present its demands for continued support in a letter to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin after the meeting.

Asyraf said that “national reconciliation” does not mean that each party should ignore their political identities or struggles, but it could allow them to temporarily suspend any power struggle.

“We must mobilize efforts and resources together to find the best formula to help the rakyat who are suffering the impact of the pandemic.

“There is a need for political will, commitment and sincerity to ensure the success of the agenda.

“Let us not be punished by the rakyat who are fed up and tired of politicians fighting for power incessantly,” he said.

Meanwhile, former human resources minister M. Kulasegaran called on the government to stop the “intense politicking” and to develop an effective strategy to help workers and businesses affected by the conditional movement control order.

The Ipoh Barat deputy and the DAP vice president also urged the government to increase wage subsidies.

“It is time for the government to take into consideration the systemic nature of our industries and present strategic initiatives to help these industries and their workers through training and technological innovation,” he said.
