KUANTAN (Bernama): Applications for interstate travel to Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya from people claiming to be ‘weekend husbands’ have been rejected by police since the conditional movement control order (MCO) began on 14 October.

Kuantan District Police Chief, ACP, Mohamad Noor Yusof Ali, said that a total of 1,000 applications for inter-state travel were received and of that, 830 applications were approved from October 14 to date.

He said that around 250 to 300 applications were rejected because the reasons were not strong enough or supporting documents were not attached.

“For example, some gave the reason that they are weekend husbands going to meet their families who live in the MCO area,” said ACP Mohamad.

He said that after attending a Ziarah Prihatin program to monitor compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), those who do not need to travel should sit at home rather than enter an MCO area and risk their health.

ACP Mohamad said that two police officers and a corporal have been quarantined in the last six days.

“The two officers involved had just returned from a course in Kuala Lumpur where an instructor had symptoms and tested positive for Covid-19 after a screening test, causing officers and their families to need to self-quarantine,” he said.

“The corporal was instructed to undergo self-quarantine because he was unwell after completing a 14-day quarantine at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Center upon returning from Sabah,” he said, adding that the three are waiting your Covid-19 swab. test results – Bernama
