PETALING JAYA: Two villages in Labuan will undergo a lockdown for 14 days starting tomorrow, and all residents must be quarantined at their homes.

Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that Kampung Air Saguking and Kampung Sebur Baru will be placed under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO), which will affect about 8,062 people.

At a press conference, he said that EMCO should control movements inside and outside the area and facilitate the realization of Covid-19 projections.

No one may enter or leave the town except in an emergency. Grocery stores and food outlets will be allowed to operate until 6pm, and only takeout food will be allowed.

He also said residents who are in close contact, symptomatic or who have been evaluated will need to wear surveillance bracelets.

“The welfare of the residents will be managed by the local authority and the welfare department,” he said.

Not all forms of social and religious activities will be allowed, while bartering activities will not be allowed in the area.

Ismail added that the military will establish a makeshift treatment center at Kepayan Prison in Kota Kinabalu to isolate and treat Covid-19 patients there.

“The military is also prepared to establish a field hospital in Kota Kinabalu to treat non-Covid-19 patients should the need arise.

“This is to decrease the patient load on hospitals, allowing them to focus on treating Covid-19 patients,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ismail said 460 people were arrested yesterday by police for violating the recovery movement control order (RMCO), with 440 of them fined and 20 in pre-trial detention.

Most of them were captured for not registering their personal data when entering shops (58), not wearing a mask in public places (159) and not practicing social distancing (167).

Authorities also detained 57 undocumented immigrants yesterday as part of Ops Benteng’s ongoing campaign. They also confiscated four land vehicles.
