MELAKA (Bernama): For not being quarantined as ordered by the Ministry of Health, a former contractor was sentenced to 14 days in jail and fined 1,000 RM by the magistrates’ court here.

Judge Muhammad Nazrin Ali Rahim handed down the sentence against 32-year-old Md Syafrizan Salleh after he pleaded guilty to the crime and the jail term will begin from Monday (October 19).
The court also ordered that Papar’s father of two children, Sabah, be jailed for another seven days if he did not pay the fine.
“You should have acted responsibly and understood that self-quarantine was necessary after you returned to the peninsula from a high-risk area, to ensure that you were really healthy and not infect others because if you were (Covid-19) positive , it would have an impact on the lives and safety of others, ”Muhammad Nazrin told the defendant.
Md Syafrizan is alleged to have violated the order issued by the Ministry of Health on September 29 to quarantine himself at Bangunan Pentadbiran Persiaran Penapisan Sungai Udang here.
He was charged under Section 24 of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act of 1988, which provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both.
Prosecutor ASP Nora Yaacob appeared before the prosecution while the defendant was represented by a practicing attorney.
Outside of court, ASP Nora said that Md Syafrizan returned to Kota Kinabalu on September 26 to vote in the state elections and when he returned to the peninsula, he was to self-quarantine for 14 days from September 28 to October 11 according to the Order. home surveillance.
