KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has taken statements from Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on various issues, including the circulation of a list of 121 names of MPs who allegedly endorse him for the post of prime minister.

CID federal director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said Anwar went to Bukit Aman on Friday for the CID’s Special Investigations Unit to take a statement.

“He was questioned about the investigations into the circulation of the names of 121 parliamentarians who supported him, which was published on an online portal.

“Investigations are classified under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Law for circulating statements with the intention of causing public alarm or inducing the public to commit a crime against the state and share offensive or threatening content, ”he said in a statement.

He said 113 police reports had been received, including complaints from MPs who denied they supported him.

“The allegations were widely circulated in the media, prompting unhealthy speculation,” he added.

He said police also took statements from Anwar about five other cases.

These included the statement made alleging that the government headed by the Prime Minister had fallen due to the lack of majority support in the Dewan Rakyat, allegations of sodomy and the legal statement made by Aidil Azim Abu Adam, and a speech alleging that the Gambling dens were operating during the motion control order, he added.

Comm Huzir said they also took his statement in a speech alleging that 6.7 million foreigners were in Malaysia, as well as comments made at a press conference about him handing over some documents to Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

He said that Anwar’s lawyer, Ramkarpal Singh Deo, and Farhash Wafa political secretary Salvador Rizal Mubarak were also present in Bukit Aman.

“The investigations were carried out professionally and without any political pressure,” he said.
