DEBAK (Oct 18): Anticipating that the 12th state election could be held anytime from now, Senior Deputy Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said all out-of-state poll workers must obtain work permits soon to enter the state.
“They are here to work, so the permit is mandatory for those coming from Sabah or Peninsular Malaysia,” he said while officiating at a briefing for activists in the Bukit Saban constituency, the counting and counting agent here today. .
Some 135 people attended the briefing led by a political secretary to the Chief Minister, Dr. Richard Rapu.
Uggah also had a warning for local activists and workers, telling them that their counterparts from abroad were known for their more aggressive or robust behavior.
“Let’s not be intimidated, but we shouldn’t emulate them either,” he said.
Uggah, who is the Bukit Sabah Assemblyman, also urged all Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) workers to spare no effort to ensure that all GPS candidates not only retain their seats but win big in the next few state elections to allow the state coalition to re-form the government. .
“We must have a rock solid foundation for a very strong and stable government. We must be fully prepared as the election can be called at any time (from) now.
“Our activists must be able to refute the many accusations and lies spread by those who are against us,” he said.
On a lighter note, he said electoral fever was very much in the air in Betong Division.
“Some people believe in flying more of their party flags here than our GPS flags. Let us respond accordingly by combining them to show that we are serious about protecting our territory.
“We have also been working hard all of this to obviously bring more development and progress here. But an aspiring opposition candidate goes around saying that he hasn’t seen anything, “he said.
Previously, Uggah, who is Minister of Modernization of Agriculture, Native Lands and Regional Development, inspected several projects that are being implemented here.
They include the RM 6.2 million Spaoh Waterfront project, the new RM 5 million sub-district office, the new RM 5 million market, and the site of the new RM 30 million Spaoh Bridge spanning the Paku River.
