REAL MADRID and Barcelona are ready to face off in a battle to get Bruno Fernandes out of Old Trafford.

The Spanish giants are closely following Fernandes’ situation despite the player having spent just eight months at Manchester United.

While Fernandes denies there are any serious problems at the club, the midfielder was unhappy about being substituted at halftime in this month’s 6-1 loss to Spurs.

He was also very vocal in a locker room row at halftime before boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told him they would trade him for Fred.

When asked yesterday why he had replaced the player, Solskjaer declined to elaborate.

He said: “There are many reasons behind substitutions in a game and if I explain every time I eliminate a player, I don’t think it’s the right thing to do.

“I explained to Bruno and he accepted it, no problem.”

The player and the club have tried to downplay the suggestions of a halftime row between Fernandes and Harry Maguire while they trailed the Spurs 4-1.

The 26-year-old Portuguese also had to dismiss a story in his homeland that he had no faith in Solskjaer’s tactics, claiming that was not the case.

Ahead of today’s visit to Newcastle, Solskjaer added: “Clearly not happy with the stories, but welcome to United, this is what happens.

“They are going to try to create a division between us, but it is not going to happen.”

Meanwhile, Solskjaer confirmed that Man Utd has activated the one-year extension on Paul Pogba’s contract.

Their deal ended at the end of this season, but without any announcement, the club had taken the option to extend it for one year.

Last week, Pogba flirted with Real Madrid again, saying it would be a dream to play for them.

But Solskjaer said: “Paul is our player, he will be here for another two years.

“He is focused on doing the best for us and we want to see the best in Paul and I am sure that in the coming years we will bring out the best in him.”
