Utama’s group dates back to a Nepalese security guard

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Health confirmed today that the Covid-19 cases in the Utama Cluster involving a shopping center in Petaling originated from a 28-year-old Nepalese security guard (case number 15,023).

Tan Sri Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that so far, the group had recorded a total of 132 cases, including 105 reported today.

“The breakdown of the 132 positive cases detected in this cluster is 87 security personnel, 18 cleaning personnel, 16 workers from various businesses in the shopping center, six visitors and five relatives of case number 12,549.

“Previously, the Ministry of Health suspected that case number 12,549 were the index cases, however, subsequent investigations found that the symptoms of this case began after case number 15,023,” he said during his virtual press conference broadcast by the Ministry of Health. Dr. Noor Hisham said that the index case had been experiencing fever, cough and flu since September 22, and tested positive on October 8 through a close contact examination before being admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.

A total of 131 cases related to the group were reported in Selangor and one in Melaka, involving 107 foreigners and 25 Malaysians.

To date, a total of 447 people have been examined, 269 refusals detected and 46 people still awaiting results.

“In this sense, the shopping center has been closed from October 11 until tomorrow (October 16) for disinfection and cleaning reasons. The District Health Office involved will continue close contact detection and active case tracking for this group, ”he said. – Called
