Apple made headlines recently for a unique reason:iPhone 12 series does not come with a charger in the box. However, before we all join in the fun, it’s important to remember that brands, including Samsung, have targeted Apple’s bizarre decisions in the past, only to finally follow suit. Remember the iPhone X and how Samsung targeted the notch when comparing it to an unfortunate haircut?
As we all know, the company has since released notched smartphones. The Galaxy M series was the first to introduce the Infinity-V display to begin with, just a couple of months after debuting with that unforgettable haircut. Fortunately, those days are past, and now, most Galaxy smartphones use perforated cutouts to house their selfie camera setups.
If you travel back four years to 2016, you may remember that Google released the first Pixel phone, while announcing that it came with a 3.5mm headphone jack that was “satisfactorily not new.” Apple, of course, had released the iPhone 7 without a headphone jack, offering headphones or Lightning dongles as alternatives.
It turns out that Apple may have been right in predicting that headphone jacks would one day be obsolete; After all, TWS earphones have gained popularity and so has their affordability.
Samsung, for its part, also jumped on the bandwagon and launched an ad that was clearly aimed at the iPhone 7 without a jack. And as we all know, from the Galaxy Note 10 onwards, most of the Korean company’s flagship smartphones now miss out on headphones. you take. In fact, most high-end smartphones, and even tablets, now come without 3.5mm ports, and it has become a standard that most users have grudgingly accepted in recent years.
In fact, one could argue that Apple has set trends over the years, the good and the bad. Despite the taunts they have faced from competitors, the notches were huge for several years on phones practically all over the world: Huawei, Xiaomi and the brands mentioned above. Wireless headphones are also a must have these days.
However, perhaps skipping the iPhone 12’s charging block is too much. If you use third-party chargers, you may not get the maximum charging speeds that iPhone 12 can support; If you want to play it safe and get an official charger from Apple, you can buy a 20W charger for RM99.
Apple also decided not to include Lightning EarPods with the iPhone 12. Not a big deal for me, but yes not have a pair of wireless headphones, good luck finding a pair of Lightning headphones out there. Or, well, buy a new pair of EarPods for RM99, or a 3.5mm Lightning dongle for RM55.
