Mall group is the largest contributor to new cases in S’gor

COVID-19 | The Utama cluster, named for the 1 Utama Mall in Selangor, it was the largest contributor to the number of new Covid-19 cases in the state as reported by the Ministry of Health.

In a statement today, Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 150 new cases in Selangor reported at noon, 105 were attributed to the Utama group alone.

The index case has been identified as a 28-year-old foreign security guard who reported symptoms on September 22, but was only diagnosed on October 8.

So far, there are 132 positive cases of Covid-19 attributed to this group.

The vast majority of their cases involved security guards (87) followed by cleaners (18) all working in the mall.

Other infected were 16 staff members from various outlets in the mall, six customers and five of their relatives.

So far, this group has involved 107 foreigners and 25 Malaysian citizens.

Since then, the shopping center has been ordered to close between October 11 and 16 due to sanitation works.

Noor Hisham said active case finding and close contact screening were still ongoing.

So far, 447 people have been tested and 46 results are still pending.
