As the pandemic intensifies, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) is equipping auxiliary policemen with temperature scanning helmets.

On its Facebook page, the national railway system stated that the police would be patrolling with helmets to detect the temperature of passengers, to detect those with too high a body temperature, a potential sign of Covid-19 infection.

This was in addition to other measures by KTMB to curb the spread of the virus, including temperature scanners at stations, hand sanitizers and regular train sanitation.

“Hopefully, the methods implemented will increase the confidence of passengers to use KTMB services,” he said in the post.

He stated that the helmets were still in testing and were being evaluated to determine their effectiveness.

Following the re-implementation of the conditional motion control order (MCO) in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, KTMB said it would still allow people to travel through districts and states on its trains.

A spokesperson was reported to have said his staff did not have the power to check passengers for the documents required to travel.

This included a letter from the employer to travel between districts for work or consent from the police for interstate travel and for those going to and from the districts affected by Covid-19.

However, passengers would have to present the necessary documentation in case the police came on board to carry out controls.
