Mitsubishi has introduced the revamped Eclipse Cross, which will go on sale in Australia and New Zealand in November this year, followed by the United States in the first quarter of 2021.

The mid-cycle update brings changes to the compact SUV’s front and rear ends, with the most significant being seen in the latter. Here, the previous full-width taillights and split rear windshield are gone, replaced by vertical L-shaped clusters and a single pane of glass.

To accompany these reviews, there is also a remodeled tailgate that helps reduce the plump look of the pre-facelift model’s tail. Further down, the rear bumper is now primarily black (or body-colored in other markets) and sports a skid plate-like element for a rugged feel.

This look is replicated at the front of the bumper, which is accompanied by a revamped lighting setup. There is still a two-tier setup as before, but the slimmer top now only contains the LED daytime running lights.

Meanwhile, the main lighting units have been moved lower, with oval housings with chrome accents to make sure you know where they are. Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield face remains present as before, but with some tweaks such as fine hexagonal perforations for the narrower upper grille, along with a honeycomb mesh insert underneath.

Inside, the infotainment system screen has been increased in size from seven to eight inches and features a new interface and physical controls for volume and adjustment. The previous touch panel, which seemed a bit out of place, has also been abandoned, so the interface with the system is done through a touch screen that is brought closer to the occupants.

For the US market, the Eclipse Cross will be powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine generating 152 hp and 249 Nm of torque. This is combined with a CVT and two- or all-wheel drive, the latter being Mitsubishi’s Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system.

A plug-in hybrid powertrain will also be part of the lineup, though it won’t be offered in the US This setup is said to come from the larger Outlander PHEV and consists of a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with two electric motors.
