PETALING JAYA: One Utama mall management denies that there are 63 positive cases of Covid-19 in the mall here and says it is misleading to imply that all cases originated there.

In a statement, One Utama said there are no identified index cases at the mall.

“Out of the 6,000 employees who were screened, yesterday (October 14) we concluded the test results and successfully identified 20 tenants and one shopping center administrative staff who are positive for Covid-19.

“These 21 people were quickly quarantined by the Health Ministry to contain the spread and further minimize potential exposure,” the mall said in a statement on Thursday (October 15).

The mall said the 44 positive Covid-19 cases among security guards were not part of the 6,000 mall workers who were screened en masse.

“They do not originate from the 1 Utama facilities.

“We hereby wish to state that the 44 positive COVID cases from security guards mentioned by the Petaling district office did not originate from 1Utama and were not part of the 6,000 mass tests we conducted.

“In fact, they are guards outsourced from a third-party service provider where Covid-19 was contracted through a bedroom and not within our premises,” the mall said.
