KUCHING (Oct 12): SMK Bandar Bintulu was ordered to close until Oct 16 to allow cleaning and disinfection work to be carried out in relation to Covid-19, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said.
It said in a statement that the Sarawak Department of Education had issued the instruction for the shutdown for a period of seven days, beginning on October 10.
“This is what is contained in the letter of instructions for the closure of schools due to the confirmation of the Covid-19 case, from the office of the Deputy Director General of Education of Malaysia,” he said today in a statement.
A spokesperson for SDMC confirmed that the school’s closure was due to contact tracing conducted in relation to Case 733, which was confirmed positive for Covid-19 on October 8 and had a history of traveling to Perak and Kuala Lumpur on October 24. to September 27.
“Case 733 has two children who stay in the same house. One is still in school and another is studying at a local public university.
“One of them started having a fever on October 8, while the other did not show any signs or symptoms of Covid-19 infection,” he said.
The school closure is one of two decisions made by SDMC after its daily meeting on Covid-19 today.
The other decision was regarding entertainment centers that violated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), SDMC said.
“Entertainment centers that violate the SOP will be ordered to close for 14 days from the complex’s issuance date,” it said in the statement.
Additionally, entertainment centers that operate without a license must close down or face severe fines, while licensed entertainment centers that have expired licenses will be ordered to close until their licenses are renewed.
“To date there are four entertainment centers that have been ordered to close, following their violation of the SOP that has been provided to them,” he said.
