The announcement of the Conditional Motion Control Order (CMCO) in Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur from October 14 to 27 has led to the postponement of several performing arts shows and visual arts exhibitions in the Klang Valley.
Under CMCO guidelines, all religious, sporting and cultural activities will be prohibited.
Many people in the arts and culture community have expressed sadness at this turn of events, but have understood that steps must be taken to address the increase in Covid-19 cases.
A disappointed Joe Hasham, co-founder and artistic director of The Actors Studio / KLPac, says that performing arts activities at KLPac have performed well since theaters reopened in July after the MCO.

The Actors Studio’s postponed shows at KLPac are Short + Sweet Dance (October 16-17), Short + Sweet Theater (October 23-24) and Cabaret Series: Divas Live! (October 28-November 1).
The Malay premiere of Triple Frontier (odissi), a Sutra Foundation dance performance was also postponed. The show was supposed to take place at the PJ Civic Center Auditorium from October 16-18.
“We are devastated because Triple Borders, which had faced a similar postponement in March when the MCO was enforced, now has to suffer the same fate again. The Damansara Performing Arts Center (DPAC) has decided to postpone its next triple bill dance show, called Creatures Trilogy, even before the CMCO was announced today. It was supposed to play on October 17 and 18. At press time, the show is tentatively rescheduled for November 14-15.
Masakini Theater Company (Masakini) Pandemaniac, which was supposed to open on October 22 at Studio Ramli Hassan in KL, has also been postponed indefinitely.

Istana Budaya CEO Zaiton Md Desa also expressed dismay and shock at the news.

The two postponed shows are Lambang Sari Series – Melodies and Memories of Childhood (October 14) and Malaysian Rhapsody Concert with Malaysian Traditional Orchestra (October 23 and 24).
