KOTA SAMARAHAN (Oct 12): Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Vice President Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah believes that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will leave disappointed after his hearing with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong tomorrow.
Abdul Karim was confident that the king would not be fooled by Anwar’s claims of majority support in Parliament and would continue to rely on Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership, especially in his handling of the Covid pandemic. -19.
“I firmly believe that he (Anwar) will leave the palace disappointed. I think we have an Agong who is really capable of reading things and I firmly believe that the Agong will let him know when (Anwar) goes to see him tomorrow.
“You see, we have a good government that is handling the Covid-19 outbreak and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin appears to be handling the pandemic very well, so please don’t disrupt it politically,” he told reporters after the launch of a virtual park reality theme here.
Anwar had claimed on September 23 that he had “strong and convincing support” from MPs to become the next prime minister.
The Pakatan Harapan leader had refused to reveal how many MPs were with him, insisting that he would come forward after he had had an audience with the king.
The Perikatan Nasional government led by Muhyiddin is currently hanging by a thread with reportedly 113 of the 222 seats in parliament.
Meanwhile, Abdul Karim said the next session of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) will likely be the last before the state elections are called.
“I think the next DUN sessions will be the last because the DUN term is expected to end in the middle of next year. I think we won’t be able to have another session after November, ”he said.
When asked when the state elections will be held, Abdul Karim said that only Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg would know.
“For the state elections to take place, the DUN has to be dissolved first and personally, I see that the state elections are not far away because I think we are going to the last DUN session in November and the DUN mandate will end in April or May “, He said.
Abdul Karim said that all the elected representatives of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) knew that the next state elections were just around the corner.
He said the GPS coalition deserved a new mandate from the people, as it had a strong history of development and new initiatives in the state, such as the Coastal Highway Network project and the state’s own television station.
Abdul Karim commented that the GPS government had recently claimed the state tax on the sales of petroleum products from Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) and had managed the state prudently.
“I remember when I was elected for the first time 10 or 15 years ago and we had problems getting projects because there was no money. But now it is quite the opposite in the sense that we are having difficulty finding good contractors for our rural transformation projects ”.
He explained that one of the reasons for the lack of contractors was that some of them were blacklisted due to poor performance and the government had to look for other credible contractors.
The minister also dismissed talks that the state government would present an ‘electoral budget’ at the next DUN session to please the people, as the state government was fully committed and sincere in raising the standard of living of the people. for the past three years. .
