S’gor Government Closes 1 Utama Mall After Staff and Buyer Get Covid-19

COVID-19 | The Selangor government has ordered 1 Utama Mall in Petaling Jaya It will close as of tomorrow (October 11) after the discovery of four cases of Covid-19 at its facilities.

The first case of Covid-19 at the mall was reported on October 5 that involved a Mac City Service Center staff and another on October 8 that involved a Parkson Elite employee.

However, Petaling district official Johary Anuar, who also chairs the district’s disaster management committee, revealed that there have been two more cases involving an employee and a buyer.

“The Petaling Health Department will conduct a Covid-19 health screening at 1 Utama on October 14 and 15 from 9 am to 2 pm.

“The priority for detection will be for close contacts who visited the facilities on the previous dates,” he said today in a statement.

1 Utama management in a statement appealed to buyers and staff who have been to the Parkson Elite cosmetics section on the ground floor, as well as the Mac City Service Center from September 25 to September 7. October, to contact the Petaling District Health Office.

To date, management said all Mac City Service Center staff had tested negative, as well as close contacts of Parkson Elite staff.

“KKM had confirmed that the small number of cases in 1 Utama are not connected and not spread by a single source, and infected people show no (asymptomatic) symptoms during their working days at our tenant outlets,” he said.

At the same time, the management also confirmed that the mall will only reopen after 1 Utama and the tenants’ staff have been assessed and authorized.

Johary also announced the closure of Tropicana Golf Club and Country Resort after five employees also tested positive for Covid-19.

“The closures will go into effect on October 11 for contact tracing and disinfection purposes,” he added.
