PETALING JAYA: Logistical problems are preventing more Covid-19 tests from being carried out in Sabah despite the country’s ability to do 41,000 tests a day, says Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The director general of Health said that the test volume capacity in Sabah is limited to just 2,500 to 3,000 tests.
“We have the capacity of more than 41,000 tests a day, but the problem is logistics. We are now addressing the problem in terms of bringing samples from Sabah to Peninsular Malaysia.
“With a daily flight, maybe we can speed up testing. Our benchmark is to do testing in 24 to 72 hours. We hope we can increase our efficiency and hopefully by doing so we can support public health action.” in the field, “he said on Friday (October 9).
Dr Noor Hisham said some of the samples have been taken to the ministry’s Institute for Medical Research (IMR) for analysis in Peninsular Malaysia.
He also assured the public that the spread of Covid-19 in the community could be contained as previously seen in Sarawak and Kedah in the Sivagangga, Salah and Kurau groups.
“In all the conglomerates, we were able to finish the conglomerates in a short period of time of three to four weeks,” he said.
He added that it is estimated that it will take three to four weeks to contain the Covid-19 infection in Sabah.
