Dayot Upamecano will reportedly only consider a trade to Manchester United next summer if he is playing in the Champions League.
Red Bull Leipzig defender he linked up with a host of European bigwigs, including United and Liverpool, in the early summer.
However, the £ 52 million release clause put off suitors, especially as it would have been available for free next summer.
The 22-year-old has since signed a new deal with the Bundesliga club, tying him up until 2023.
His representatives also managed to reduce his release clause to around £ 40 million, likely a bargaining tool for the defender to extend his deal.

Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly were the two center-backs to be shown at Old Trafford and they both endured a difficult day.
Victor Lindelof is another option for Solskjaer, but the truth is that United seem to be short of coverage in central defense.
‘Upamecano is the one that jumps me’
Ed Woodward and company were believed to be looking for an advocate in the summer market, but they focused all their attention on trying to get Jadon Sancho. That left Solskjaer without a quality fourth center-back option.
Upamecano could be a good fit next summer, but the source says the France star will only consider a trade to United if he’s playing in Europe’s elite competition.
It is an option that impresses Rio Ferdinand.
The former England defender said: “Upamecano is young, good with the ball, athletic, strong, mobile, he plays every game. It’s one that you can see coming in right now.
“[Kalidou] Koulibaly has been talked about for two or three years, he could have missed the boat because of his age. There is no resale value.
“Upamecano is the one that jumps out at me, when I saw the Champions League last year, it was the one that most caught my attention.”
