KUALA LUMPUR: Most Covid-19 groups in Kedah have not registered new cases, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The prime minister said that most groups, including the Sivagangga, Muda and Sanglang groups, did not register any new cases.
“Only the Bah Sintok and Tembok clusters registered new cases, but it is still under control.
“This shows that the measures taken by various agencies to curb the spread of the virus in Kedah are effective,” he said in his Facebook post after chairing the special meeting of the National Security Council on the management of Covid-19 on Friday (9 October).
Muhyiddin, who chaired the meeting via video conference from his home, said the meeting also focused on the situation in Sabah.
“As the cases in Sabah showed an increase, we have agreed that the Ministry of Education should consider the need to close schools in the state.
“The Chief Minister (Education) will make an announcement on this matter,” he said.
The ability of hospitals in Sabah to treat Covid-19 patients was also discussed, he added.
“At the meeting it was agreed that the Ministry of Health should discuss with the Armed Forces (ATM) to obtain aid in terms of medical facilities, which can be provided by the Medical Corps of the ATM,” he said.
Muhyiddin also said that he has instructed the Immigration Department to make handling illegal immigrants in Sabah a priority, as their entry into the state is one of the reasons for the increase in cases.
“This includes increasing the capacity of immigration detention warehouses to locate undocumented immigrants and ensuring that they are not exposed to the risk of becoming infected with Covid-19,” he said.
New cases of Covid-19 in Selangor and the Federal Territories were also discussed during the meeting, especially in the case involving a student from SK Bangsar.
“We agreed that the Ministry of Education should issue an order to close schools if any teacher or student tests positive for Covid-19, without waiting for the risk assessment from the Ministry of Health,” Muhyiddin said.
