KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities are conducting large-scale joint operations to eliminate illegal immigrants during the implementation of the Movement Control Order as part of efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Police Inspector General Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador (pix) said that operations involving the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), the Immigration Department, the Malaysian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Health should ensure that no undocumented immigrants escape from the identified areas. and spread the disease to another place.

“We cannot allow them to move freely while the MCO is still in place, as it will be difficult for us to track them if they leave identified locations.

“That is the main objective of today’s operations that we carry out in various places in the capital,” he told Bernama here.

Abdul Hamid also noted that it would be difficult for authorities to carry out contact tracing if an infected illegal immigrant moved to a different location and then started a new group.

Explaining further, he said the detainees would be placed in one location for easy monitoring until the MCO is lifted.

“It is up to the government to take further action against them once the MCO is lifted,” he added.

During today’s operations in and around Masjid India, authorities detained hundreds of undocumented immigrants who remained in the area. –Bernama
