Manchester United had a strange candidate in line in case they couldn’t sign Alex Telles according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist previously claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team had Sergio Reguilon as their first option, but once it became clear that he was not an option, they moved on to the Brazilian defender.
The Spanish full-back moved to Tottenham Hotspur in his place as they were happy to accept Real Madrid’s demands for a buy-back clause compared to United, which rejected it.
Solskjaer ended up successfully signing Telles, but Romano scoffed at fans with who the endorsement was for the endorsement.
Now that the window has been closed, he decided to reveal who the Red Devils had in mind and it’s quite shocking.

Emerson joined Chelsea from Roma in January 2018, but it’s safe to say that he hasn’t had as much impact as he would have liked.
With Frank Lampard, he has had an even lesser role, only made Carabao Cup appearances, which makes it even weirder why Manchester United would have been considering him.
The only potential reason is that Chelsea probably would have sold Emerson cheaply, as it is considered to be exceeding the requirements.
However, it is good that United signed Telles because otherwise it would have been a deal that fans would not have been happy with.
