Covid-19: Klang school sessions will continue as usual, says S’gor Department of Education

SHAH ALAM (Bernama): The Selangor Department of Education said on Tuesday (October 6) evening that school sessions in Klang will continue as usual despite the district being classified as a Covid-19 red zone on Tuesday in the afternoon.

Director Izmi Ismail (Photo), when contacted, said that the closure of schools would only take place following a recommendation from the Ministry of Health.

He said that so far, only seven classes involving two schools in Klang have been closed after their students and teachers were ordered to undergo home quarantine as they were close contacts of Covid-19 positive people.

“It consisted of one Form Five class and one Form One class at SMK Pandamaran Jaya and five Year Six classes at SK Taman Sri Andalas. However, we have disinfected all the classes involved,” he told Bernama.

Izmi said that the 14-day quarantine involving students and teachers at SMK Pandamaran Jaya began last Wednesday (September 30), while SK Taman Sri Andalas began on Saturday (October 3).

He added that schools had always practiced standard operating procedures and adhered to all advice from the district health office to contain Covid-19 transmissions.

Selangor recorded 232 active cases today, with 77 cases treated in Klang.

Earlier, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in his special speech on the Covid-19 situation said that until now the government had decided to close only schools in the red zones of Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Putatan, Tawau, Lahad Datu, Kunak and Semporna. in Sabah. – Bernama
