PETALING JAYA: Istana Negara says it takes seriously the misuse of the name of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah or that of the palace to spread false news for the political benefit of the people.

The Comptroller of the Royal House, Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, said that the Palace was monitoring false statements to the media from various people, using the name and photos of the King and the Palace.

“This irresponsible action not only tarnishes the credibility of the King and Istana Negara, but could cause anxiety among the people and disturb the peace in the country,” he said in a statement on Monday (October 5).

Ahmad said they would not hesitate to submit a report to the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for action to be taken under Sections 211 and 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The Palace urged the public not to panic easily or to believe the fake news that was being spread.

Ahmad also reminded the public not to share the fake news to avoid action by the police and the MCMC.
