Covid-19 case detected in a shopping center in Utama

The management of Centro Comercial 1 Utama says mitigation steps and public safety measures have been implemented following the detection of a Covid-19 case.

PETALING JAYA: 1 Utama Shopping Center reported that a case of Covid-19 was detected in the complex, involving a member of the Mac City Service Center staff.

In a statement posted on social media today, management said the person had not been to the mall since leaving work on September 30, adding that the person is now receiving treatment at a government hospital.

He said the company had not yet been officially informed by health authorities on the matter, but had started to implement mitigation measures and public safety measures.

The Mac City Service Center has been closed for sanitation and affected personnel have been quarantined.

Personnel movements through entry points have also been tracked using QR data and CCTV footage.

The shopping center has also carried out sanitation of public areas and points of contact such as elevators and escalators.

The mall said this was the first recorded case in 1 Utama since the start of the pandemic, and vowed to keep buyers, tenants and sellers updated on the situation as it progresses.

Management urged clients to remain calm and adhere to standard operating procedures such as wearing face masks, undergoing temperature checks, and practicing good hygiene and physical distancing.

He said updates will be posted through 1 Utama’s official Facebook page.
