KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) trial of Datuk Seri Najib Razak will resume on October 19, as the former prime minister is under a two-week home quarantine upon his return from Sabah after campaigning for the early state elections last month.

The lead attorney, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, had requested a postponement of the trial during the handling of the case before High Court Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah on Monday (October 5).

“My client tested negative on September 27, but was guided by Defense Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“In his post on social media, the minister said that if you are positive, you must go to the hospital. However, if the test result is negative, but you were in close contact or exposed to infected people, you must comply the 14-day home surveillance order, ”he said.

Muhammad Shafee said that in addition to the home surveillance order, Najib had also taken an immune booster program on October 3.

“He (Najib) should be able to attend the normal programs on the 15th,” said Muhammad Shafee.

Deputy Prosecutor Mohamad Mustafa P. Kunyalam did not object to the request for postponement.

Judge Sequerah later allowed the request.

“In light of the current situation, it is a bit risky. Normally in 13 days, symptoms can manifest. I assumed that I accept the request (to postpone the trial). The trial is vacant from Monday to Thursday and to resume on October 19 ”Said the judge.

Najib, 67, faces four counts of using his position to obtain bribes totaling RM2.3bil of 1MDB funds and 21 counts of money laundering involving the same amount. – Bernama
