PETALING JAYA: Selangor hospitals were ordered to standby to receive non-Covid-19 patients following the indication of the start of a third wave of Covid-19 infections in the country.
This comes as the status of Sungai Buloh Hospital, the country’s main Covid-19 medical treatment center, is shifting from a ‘Covid-19 hybrid hospital’ to a ‘full Covid-19 hospital’ in anticipation of an influx of patients in the next few days.
In a letter on Friday (October 2), the director of the Selangor Health Department, Dr. Sha’ari Ngadiman, reminded all hospitals in the state that they must be prepared to receive patients who do not have Covid-19 from the Hospital. Sungai Buloh.
“This department has urged Sungai Buloh Hospital to prepare for a change of status from ‘Covid-19 hybrid hospital’ to ‘Covid-19 full hospital’.
“We hope you will cooperate to ensure that clinical services are not affected and run smoothly,” Sha’ari said in her letter as reported by a news portal on Sunday (October 4).
Sungai Buloh Hospital was designated a Covid-19 hospital in March when the first Covid-19 wave hit the nation.
Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said Malaysia is expected to enter the third wave of Covid-19 following an increase in the number of infections globally in several nations.
On Saturday (October 3), Dr. Noor Hisham said that the number of Covid-19 cases in the country is expected to increase in the coming days.
Dr. Noor Hisham’s warning comes after the country recorded the highest number of infections in a single day on Saturday with 317 new cases compared to 287 cases the day before (October 2) and 260 cases on Thursday (1 October).
The recent surge in the number of infections had brought the total number of cumulative Covid-19 cases above the 12,000 mark since the outbreak of the pandemic here earlier this year.
Sabah, Kedah and Selangor have seen an increase in the number of infections following the appearance of various groups of Covid-19.
The government said it has no plans to reintroduce the motion control order (MCO) across the country despite the spike in Covid-19 cases in recent times, but is dependent on specific MCOs.
