KOTA KINABALU: All education offices and schools registered under the Ministry of Education in Sabah, except the four red zone areas on the east coast, will operate as usual during the interdistrict travel ban.

The Ministry of Education, in a statement on Saturday (October 3), said that the National Security Council had given the ministry permission to allow all officers, teachers and staff living outside the district in which they work to comply with their duties.

This is so that the operations of the institutions involved are not affected.

To this end, the department head will issue a letter of order to attend to the work of these groups.

“The respective school administration will also issue a special permission letter to students living outside the school district to allow them to come to school,” the ministry said.

However, the protocols of academic institutions in Tawau, Lahad Datu, Kunak and Semporna districts are based on the Enhanced Motion Control Command (MCO) directed.

A total of 209 ministry-dependent public and private schools in affected districts are currently closed for the specific enhanced MCO from September 29 to October 12.

“The ministry will remain committed to ensuring that no student is left behind and can continue their studies in a safe environment during the travel ban.

“For students who are left out of the school district and unable to attend, teachers will provide access to learning at home based on their suitability,” the ministry said.
