Covid-19: three new groups identified in Kedah, Selangor

PETALING JAYA: Three new Covid-19 clusters have been identified in Kedah and Selangor.

Tan Sri Health Director General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah at a press conference on Saturday (October 3) said that a new group had been identified in Kulim (Bah Lunas group), and that the index case (case 11,471) it was a 35 year old person. Malaysian man who had just arrived from a high-risk area in Sabah.

“He tested positive on September 30 and was hospitalized at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.

“Close contact examinations were performed and three positive cases were identified all from Malaysia,” he said, adding that they were taken to the same hospital.

He said that as of noon on October 31, people had been tested and 21 tested negative while 87 awaited the results.

“The other new conglomerate in Kedah is the Bah Rose conglomerate, and the index case (Case 11,212) is a 48-year-old Malaysian man who had a history of traveling to Sabah.

“He tested positive on September 29 and was hospitalized at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital,” he said, adding that close contact screening tests led seven others to test positive, all Malays.

He said they were also sent to the same hospital for treatment.

Dr. Noor Hisham said that 477 people were tested in Kedah (81) and Penang (396).

“Seven tested positive in Kedah while one tested positive in Penang, while five are still awaiting results in Kedah and 324 are still awaiting results in Penang,” he said.

In Selangor, the Jelok group was identified and the index case (case 11,788) was a 27-year-old Malaysian man.

“He tested positive on October 1 and was hospitalized at Sungai Buloh Hospital.

“Close contact screening tests led to three more positive results, all Malays,” he said, adding that in total eight were tested and four were negative.

He said the source of the infection was still under investigation.
